I began life as singer and an actress in Flint, Michigan in various local productions. The victim of a high-priced education, I have a Bachelors of Music from Webster University College of Fine Arts in St. Louis and a Masters of Music Degree from Manhattan School of Music. In 2006 I spent a week exploring American Popular Song at the Sundance Institute with the Mercer Foundation. This experience inspired me to return to my roots in Musical Theatre and American Song as a "belter". Now working together with my Music Director Tedd Firth and Director Mary Cleere Haran; in 2007 I brought my cabaret show THE ART OF THE CAHN, featuring the Sammy Cahn Songbook, to New York City's Triad Theatre & The Metropolitan Room, this show won the 2008 MAC Award for Best Female Debut. In 2009 we received rave reviews for a new Cabaret, THE FRIENDLIEST THING. In 2008, I also started a small, but ambitious project: SuCa Productions, dedicated to getting new New York songwiters heard by producing showcases that are performed by both established & emerging singers from New York's growing & varied music scene. This year & this blog is devoted to recording my first studio album.

Calling All Songwriters!

2 years ago I started a small production company to promote up & coming New York City Songwriters. I called it SuCa Productions, because Tedd Firth calls me SuCa. The first year we produced 3 writers. My goal was to make it an LLC or a non profit in 2009 & the plan was to produce 4 songwriter showcases per year, but unfortunately our funding (a.k.a my day job) was cut & those plans were put on hold.

I am still more committed than ever to bring attention to new songwriters. As we've discussed Christmas Albums are all about traditional music, but I'm always excited when I hear a new Christmas song. I've already committed to 1 songwriter who has a fantastic new tune I can't wait to record. I'd like to have at least 1 more original song on the album... so send 'em in! I'll post my favorites here as posts, podcasts or vlogs, so even if I don't record a tune, maybe another performer out there will. Maybe we'll even be able to put together a Christmas Songwriter's Showcase if we get enough great new material... who knows?
