Hi!

It's been a busy month - we exceeding out Kickstarter Goal, raising over $5000 & we're only a couple of weeks away from going into production & pressing the CD. We've just gotten our distribution deal into place & are still working on adding a few more dates & cities to our December schedule. Now that we are further along in the process I promise to blog more to keep you all in the loop.

Hey Mr. Producer...

My Recording Debut is FINALLY almost here - and we'd LOVE for you to be a part of it! Everything I've been planning is actually happening - It's so exciting. I went to the studio today to finalize our plans...

We've been working on this project since January & FINALLY we're going into the studio starting August 2nd! We've pinched every penny & are looking for backers to get us over the finish line so we can put a fantastic professional product online & in stores by November 15th. Your support would help with production costs such as mixing & mastering as well as licensing fees & of course manufacturing the physical product!

Calling All Songwriters!

2 years ago I started a small production company to promote up & coming New York City Songwriters. I called it SuCa Productions, because Tedd Firth calls me SuCa. The first year we produced 3 writers. My goal was to make it an LLC or a non profit in 2009 & the plan was to produce 4 songwriter showcases per year, but unfortunately our funding (a.k.a my day job) was cut & those plans were put on hold.

I am still more committed than ever to bring attention to new songwriters. As we've discussed Christmas Albums are all about traditional music, but I'm always excited when I hear a new Christmas song. I've already committed to 1 songwriter who has a fantastic new tune I can't wait to record. I'd like to have at least 1 more original song on the album... so send 'em in! Christmas Traditions...

At our new home we celebrate Christmas & Chanukah. The holidays start out peacefully. We light the candles & say the prayers for 8 nights; we have ornaments from our childhoods on display.

The then sprint comes – sometime around the 22^nd my significant other & I spend 3 action packed days visiting 3 families in 2 states. We consume too much food & too much booze & I bake so many cookies that our gas bill goes up 30% in December. We collapse every New Year’s Day & swear that the next year things we will spend less energy & money on the holidays… and every October we start to make our lists anew.

My family always does Christmas in a big way, ok in a HUGE way. Trees go up right after Thanksgiving & don’t come down until New Year’s. It may sound shallow, but a lot of it is about presents. We love to give them, we love to get them. We all still have stockings & Santa has a gift under the tree for each of us, we also each get gifts from the various family pets. Yep. The PETS.

However, nothing could have prepared us for what happened 3 Christmases ago. My brother & his wife were pregnant. Even before my nephew came into the world there were Christmas presents for him under the tree. This year (he’s 20 months old) he had to take several naps & breaks – the number of gifts he had to open was that exhausting. And FUN. We’ve always had a great time at Christmas, but it’d been a while since we had Christmas with a kid. The sheer joy of all of it is overwhelming. Next year will be even better – we all know it. This year he understood presents… next year he’ll understand Santa.

He father is big on traditions, so there will be lots of firsts that we will repeat well into the holidays when he is coming home to visit from college. There will be advent calendars, midnight mass, nativity scenes, and of course more cookies. Serious cookies.

There will also be music – music at church, music at home, music in the shops & in New York it’s even in the streets: Carols, Anthems, Hymns & of course Popular Music from the Great American Songbook, as well as some from countries near & far. Our family’s musical taste goes from Country to Rap to Classical. The number of Christmas albums out there is staggering, the great ones become as much of family traditions as the ornaments we take out year after year.

So, the question becomes… what Christmas traditions do I want to bring to light with this Christmas album? I can firmly say one that involves children. After all, isn’t that where Christmas really began?

Listening to Christmas Music!

As promised, this blog is going to be all about our new recording projects. Mr. Rebic is out of town this week, so I'm on my own looking for Christmas Music... we figure on recording about 15 tunes & have picked out maybe 9 - 10.... so we have 5 left to go. Everybody in NYC is gearing up for football tonight, but I'll be spending the evening with my new best friend: The Pandora Christmas Station.

Sooooo... this is the first question I'm going to throw out there to see if anybody is reading... What's your favorite Christmas Album or Recording? What gets you in the spirit to bake cookies, get a tree, max out your Visa or other holiday traditions? In turn - any recordings out there that make you run from the room screaming, or eat least roll your eyes?

Please Sir, Don't Tell Mama

Like I said earlier in the week, I have missed a lot of shows in New York that I would have loved to see, most notably Mary Cleere Haran's Mercer Show at Feinstein's, Molly Pope at Joe's Pub & Gretchen Reinhagen's Kay Ballard Show & Susan Winter's Jimmy Van Heusen Show at The Metropolitan Room.

There have been countless other performance I am sorry I couldn't make, but none more than seeing Kim Smith in his new show, Morphium this past December. That's why I'm so excited he is bringing it back for 3 shows at Don't Tell Mama starting January 31st. If Kurt Weill & Lotte Lenya had a child today, that would be Kim. So talented, such exquisite artistry & attention to each & every detail of his stylized Weimar Cabaret. I will make this show, no matter how tight my schedule or my budget - I hope you will do the same. See you there!

Where have I been?

I don't plan on commenting much on my personal life, I created this Blog to talk about my musical endeavors.

However, 1 day into this project it was nice to know some folks have missed me as much as I've missed them - or are curious to know what I've been up to. I didn't post the comments you sent yesterday, because you all pretty much said the same thing: Where have I been?

Well, like I said 2009 was a bummer in terms of music & opportunities. Like every other business, the music business took a hit, mine was no exception. Gigs I was hoping for vanished, audiences were smaller & calculated risks got riskier. Disposable income for tickets to see shows & 2 drinks minimums became a luxury, rather than a daily occurrence. Adjustments has to be made, and while many of them were hard, they weren't all bad. I have a new day job that will allow me to do some of theses projects that had to be put off & a new home that I share with a wonderful man & a terrific cat. That's where I've been. Adjusting. Nesting. Working. Planning. Learning.

But this Blog is all about where I'm going... there's music to be made.

PS - Her name is Mayhem. We call her May unless she's in trouble (so, about half the time).

2010 - The Year I Go On Record

Greetings & Salutations!

Thanks for stopping by, it's been a while. What can I say? 2009 was a bummer. The good news it we made it through. I've missed you and am busy making music.

You won't see much of me in the clubs for a few months yet, but I am in the planning/rehearsal phase for not 1, but 2 Studio Albums. The first is a project I'm working on with Don Rebic - we've got a really good start on a Christmas Album. The second project is one I've been kicking around for a while. It started out as an idea for a new show, then a concert series, but instead has turned into another recording project with Tedd Firth. The music I'm looking at is all about fresh starts & new beginnings.

The goal is to get these done & to be back performing in the clubs with this new material by the fall and hopefully a tour to promote the albums at Christmas & into 2011. It's an exciting time for me creatively & I want to share the experience, so welcome to my blog. We'll post podcasts, videos, previews & news about what I'm doing here.
